A month of outdoor activities On the ice in the Champlain Islands of Vermont Beginning February 6th, 2010

Join us for fun on the ice in City Bay, North Hero! We will be creating a skating oval on Lake Champlain that will be maintained until the ice melts. Bring your skates, or rent them at Hero's Welcome! Just get on Route 2 and come to North Hero Village. Free parking. Hot food and drink available each day.

Saturday, February 6th:

12:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - General skating. Snowshoeing for children. 2 to 4 p.m. Atii Sled Dog Demonstration - "Everything But a Ride" RESCHEDULED - SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 10 to noon. Please - no dogs allowed on the ice when they are there. http://www.atiisleddogs.com

5:30 p.m. Bonfire and Chili Cookoff

Bonfire by the pier at North Hero House. North Hero House and the Lake Champlain Islands Chamber will cater a cookout with chili and beverages on the pier.*

Sunday, February 7th:
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Nordic Skating with Jamie Hess, www.nordicskater.com

Jamie Hess, promoter of Nordic skating in the U.S., will provide a free demo of this exciting European sport. Nordic skates will be available to try out on the ice.

Saturday, February 13th:
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - F-F-Frozen Chosen Regatta Sponsored by Earl's Cyclery and Local Motion

Design your own funky, human powered machine! All ages welcome, solo or in teams. $20 entry fee benefits the North Hero Community Hall Restoration. Plenty of parking, hot food and beverages. Prizes in several categories. To pre-register and click here: info@champlainislands.com

9:00 a.m to 1 p.m. Ice Golf Tournament* Sponsored by Chittenden Bank and Stewart Construction

Bring your clubs and play 9 holes of wild golf on the ice. $10 registration fee includes golf balls. Winners will receive prizes and gift certificates. To register call (802) 372-8400 weekdays or just show up!


Saturday, February 20th:

8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Flapjack Breakfast at North Hero House*

11:00 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Kids Fishing Derby Sponsored by Northern Lake Champlain Advisory Committee and North Hero Recreation Committee

Kids Fishing Derby for kids 14 and under; fishing rig will be provided. Free hot dogs for kids.

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. "Over and Back" Trek to Knight Island Sponsored by VT Department of Parks

Trek from City Bay to Knight Island on skates, skis, snowshoes or sleds. Warm up at the ranger station on Knight Island with hot beverages. 4 miles round trip.

1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Horse-drawn sleigh rides Sponsored by Tibri
Horse-drawn sleigh rides in the snow with Karen Munson's team*
